The published register carries no licence numbers, so the proof is the mailbox. Write out the address the Commission publishes for your entry — that is you showing you know it — and the code goes to the register’s own copy of it, never to what you typed.

Why it is this strict

A claimed listing speaks for a licensed firm. If the wrong person could claim one, they could take instructions from companies who believe they are dealing with that firm — so the claim is proved against the mailbox on the Commission’s own record, never against a form.

The entry itself comes off the Commission’s published register, read by a person and dated.
The code goes to the address the Commission publishes — typing an address is not proof of holding it.
Where that mailbox cannot prove it, a person rings the number the Commission publishes instead.

If the mailbox cannot prove it

Plenty of real practices are published with a mailbox a code cannot prove. You are not stuck — the claim goes to a person who rings the number the Commission publishes, and you will hear within two working days. Nothing is listed as claimed until that call happens.
