Applying as an individual DPO

How an individual data protection officer applies to practise on Asiri, what you need to send, and how a DPO differs from a DPCO.

Updated

An individual DPO practises on Asiri on their own professional certificate. A person at Asiri verifies the certificate before your account is activated.

DPO and DPCO

Only a licensed DPCO can file a company's annual return or sign the audit opinion. A DPO can act as a company's data protection officer, advise, and be engaged through the marketplace. Your listing tells companies what you can and cannot do.

What you need

  • your professional certificate number and the month and year it expires
  • a link to the certificate, or a copy to upload (PDF, PNG or JPEG, up to 10 MB)
  • a phone number

Any email address works, including a free mailbox.

Start the application

  1. On the sign-up page, under Who is this for?, choose Me, as a data protection officer and press Continue.
  2. On Join as a DPO, enter your email and press Continue.
  3. Enter the six-digit Confirmation code and press Confirm address.

Apply as a practitioner

  1. Certificate: enter your Name, the Professional certificate number and when it Expires. Then choose Link to certificate and paste Link to your certificate, or choose Upload a copy. Only verified certificates are accepted.
  2. About you: your Phone number, and optionally Where you are based (optional). You can tick Join the Asiri community.
  3. How do you work today?: choose Independent practitioner, Employed by a compliance practice (give the Employing firm) or In-house DPO with independent work. Under Companies you cannot act for, add any company or group you are close to. Describe the Services you offer.
  4. Verification: check the summary and press Send the application.

If you are employed by a firm and hold no certificate yourself, you do not apply here. Your access comes through your firm's engagements.

While you wait

The screen says A person will review this one. Where this stands shows your place in the queue. No workspace exists until a person decides. You can sign in again at any time to see the decision, and it is also emailed to you.

If the application is refused, the screen gives the reason. Press Apply again and say what has changed.

Set up your practice

Once admitted, open your workspace and finish setup. The steps are Your practice and availability, What you charge, Where fees land, Your public listing and Client invitations.

Common questions

"Can I file a company's return as a DPO?" No. Only a licensed DPCO files the return and signs the opinion. A company that needs both can hire a DPCO, which can name a person to act as its DPO.

"Can a DPCO name me as the DPO on its quotations?" Yes, if you are a member of that firm's workspace, admitted on Asiri and your email is verified. The firm chooses you in Who acts as the DPO when it prepares a quotation.
