The independence register checks your practice's own engagements for conflicts every time you accept work. It does not ask you to fill in a form. A conflict you disclosed is a fact. One Asiri finds on your book is a finding.
Who can do this
An owner or editor of the practice workspace.
Open the register
On your practice overview, under Running the practice, press Independence. The badge beside the title shows how many findings are open.
The three kinds of finding
The top of the page counts open findings of each kind, and says what each one costs:
- Blocking: you cannot quote until it is resolved. The answer is to withdraw from one side.
- Disclose: the work proceeds, on the record. The answer is to disclose it.
- Manage: rotate somebody, do not decline. The answer is to rotate them off.
What Asiri checks
What Asiri checks, every time you accept work lists every rule, with why it matters:
- Assuring your own remediation, which blocks
- Acting for both parties to a grievance, which blocks
- Two direct competitors, same market, which is disclosed
- A partner who worked there, which is managed
- One client over 30% of practice fees, which is disclosed
Today only the first rule can be read from your record. The others say "not read yet" and what they are waiting for. That is not a clearance. Check those yourself.
Handle a finding
Each finding says what was found and why it matters.
- Press the finding's button, such as "Withdraw from one", "Disclose it" or "Rotate them off".
- Write What the partners decided, and why.
- Press the button again to record it, or Not yet to leave it.
The finding is then marked handled, with who decided it and when. Press Undo to take a decision back.
What you decided keeps every decision, including the ones taken back.
Common questions
"Can Asiri decline work on our behalf?" No. It stops a quote while a blocking finding is open. The partners decide what to do about it.
"Nothing is outstanding. Are we independent?" Not necessarily. Only the rules Asiri can read have been checked.
