Transferring workspace ownership

How the owner hands the workspace to a colleague who is already a member, why a reason and an identity check are needed, and where every handover is recorded.

Updated

A workspace has one owner. When that person is leaving, or the role should sit with someone else, the owner hands the workspace to a colleague who is already a member.

Who can do this

Only the current owner. Handing over changes who owns the workspace, so you are asked to confirm your identity first.

Transfer ownership

  1. Open Settings → Who has access.
  2. Under Transfer workspace ownership, choose the colleague who takes it. Only people who are already members are offered. A practice that reaches the workspace through an engagement is not.
  3. Give the Reason.
  4. Press Transfer ownership and confirm your identity.

Transferring ownership does not remove your own membership. If you are leaving, ask the new owner to end it.

Ownership history

Open Settings → Workspace settings and choose Ownership history. Recorded handovers lists every change of owner: who handed it over, who received it, when and why. A change of owner is not overwritten by the next one.

Common questions

"Can I hand the workspace to someone who has not joined yet?" No. Invite them first. Once they are a member, they can be chosen.

"Why does it ask me to confirm who I am?" A stolen session must not be enough to hand a workspace away.
